How Do Quizzes Work?
Quizzes are short checkpoints that may appear after one lesson, after several related lessons, or at the end of a unit. They help students see what they understand and which topics may need another look.
Quizzes are often multiple choice, although the format may vary. Students generally receive:
- A score after completing the quiz
- Immediate feedback
- The correct answer when available
- A helpful explanation when available

Can My Student Retake a Quiz?
Yes. Students may retake Homeschool Pro quizzes as many times as needed.
After receiving a low score, we recommend that the student:
- Review the missed questions.
- Return to the related video lesson.
- Check any available Study Guide, worksheet, or notes.
- Rewatch difficult explanations.
- Try the quiz again when ready.
A new attempt may include different questions, so the student should review the concept rather than memorize the previous answers.
Good to know: Retakes are part of the learning process. The goal is for students to understand the material, not to be permanently penalized for an early mistake.
How Are Tests and Exams Different From Quizzes?
Tests and exams are larger assessments that are usually placed near the middle or end of a course.
They generally:
- Cover a wider range of course material
- Include more questions
- Are more challenging than regular quizzes
- May contain several types of questions
Before beginning, the student will see how many questions are included and the passing score required for that assessment.
Homeschool Pro may use labels such as test, midterm, final, or exam depending on the course.
Are Tests and Exams Timed?
No. Homeschool Pro tests and exams do not have a time limit.
Students can work carefully, take the time they need to read each question, and avoid the pressure of a countdown clock.
Before submitting the assessment, students can also:
- Return to earlier questions
- Review their selected answers
- Change an answer
- Check that every question has been completed
Students may use their notes and course materials while completing a test or exam.
Tip: Even though notes are allowed, students should review the lessons and Study Guides before beginning. The assessment will be easier to complete when the material is already familiar.
Can Tests and Exams Be Retaken?
Yes. Tests and exams can be retaken as many times as needed.
If the student does not earn the required passing score, there is a 24-hour waiting period before the next attempt. This gives the student time to:
- Review missed questions
- Revisit the related lessons
- Study notes and course materials
- Take a break
- Prepare for another attempt
Tests and exams may draw questions from a larger question bank, so a retake may include a different set of questions.
The assessment is marked complete after the student earns the required passing score.
What Happens After a Test or Exam?
After submitting the assessment, the student will generally see a score summary.
The review screen may also show:
- Which questions were missed
- The correct answer when available
- An explanation or note when available
- Topics the student may need to study again
This information can turn the assessment results into a clear review plan for the next attempt.

What Should My Student Do After a Low Score?
A low score does not mean the student has failed the course or cannot understand the subject.
A helpful routine is:
- Review the missed questions calmly.
- Read any answer explanations provided.

- Review notes, worksheets, or Study Guides.
- Ask the Built-in Tutor for another explanation where available.
- Take a break before attempting the assessment again.
- Retake the test or exam after the 24-hour waiting period.
Because students can revisit the instruction and try again, assessments become another part of learning rather than a one-time judgment.
What Types of Questions May Appear?
The question formats vary by course and assessment. Students may see:
Multiple Choice
The student selects one best answer.
Multiple Select
The student selects all answers that apply. More than one answer may be correct.
True or False
The student decides whether a statement is true or false.
Fill in the Blank
The student types the correct word or phrase.
Calculation
The student enters a numerical answer for a math problem.
Essay
The student types an open-ended response.
An individual quiz, test, or exam may contain one or several of these question types.

Why Has My Student’s Essay Score Not Appeared Yet?
If a test or exam contains an open-ended essay question, the final score may not appear immediately.
Essay responses may need to be reviewed before scoring is completed. This is normal and does not mean the assessment failed to submit.
The student should wait for the review rather than immediately starting another attempt.
Can Students Use the Built-in Tutor Before an Assessment?
In supported courses for grades 5 and above, students may use the Built-in Tutor to prepare for a quiz, test, or exam.
They can ask the tutor to:
- Explain a difficult concept in simpler language
- Provide another example
- Create practice questions
- Review an important topic
- Help them identify what they need to study
The Built-in Tutor is an additional study tool. Students should still begin with the teacher-led lessons and use the course’s worksheets, Study Guides, and other materials.
Does Every Class Have the Same Assessments?
No. The number, placement, and type of assessments can vary by course.
One class may include frequent short quizzes, while another may also include a midterm, final exam, written assignment, project, or other form of assessment.
Students should follow the items shown in their individual class.
Are Quizzes and Exams the Same as Instructor-Graded Assignments?
No. Auto-graded quizzes, tests, and exams are different from written assignments submitted for instructor feedback.
Auto-graded assessments usually provide a score through the system. Instructor-graded assignments may involve writing, projects, or other work that must be reviewed by a person.
If a class includes a separate assignment, follow the submission instructions provided with that assignment.
