How can my student personalize their Certificate Portal?

7 min. readlast update: 08.22.2026

Each student’s Certificate Portal can be personalized with a profile photo, cover image, short bio, and an optional LinkedIn profile link for older students.

Personalizing the portal is optional, but it can make the page feel more like the student’s own achievement space rather than simply a collection of documents. Their certificates remain organized together underneath the personalized profile.

The Certificate Portal gives students an opportunity to express some of their personality while keeping their academic achievements organized.

In this video, a Homeschool Pro student shows her personalized portal with a profile photo, colorful cover banner, short bio, and completed-course certificates displayed together on one page.

The design can be different for every student. One child may prefer a simple academic look, while another may choose a banner and bio connected to their interests, creativity, or future goals.

Before You Begin

Sign in to the Student Certificate Portal using the student’s official @remotelearning.school email address.

Open the Student Certificate Portal

Each student has a separate portal. If you have more than one student, make sure you are signed in to the correct student’s account before making changes.

For complete login instructions, see:

How do I access the Student Certificate Portal?

Step 1: Open the Profile Editor

After signing in, open the student’s main profile page.

Select the blue pencil icon near the upper-right area of the profile. This opens the personalization screen.

Select the blue pencil icon to open the student profile editor.

Select the blue pencil icon to open the student profile editor.

Step 2: Add or Change the Profile Photo

Select the edit icon displayed over the circular profile-photo area.

Choose the image you want to upload from your device.

A good profile photo should:

  • Clearly show the student
  • Be current and easy to recognize
  • Have enough light to see the student’s face
  • Avoid distracting text or graphics
  • Be appropriate for anyone with whom the portal may later be shared

The profile photo does not need to look like a formal school picture. Students can choose a natural photo that reflects how they want to present themselves.

Step 3: Add or Change the Cover Image

Select the edit icon displayed over the wide cover-image area at the top of the profile.

The cover image acts as a banner behind the student’s name and profile photo. A student might choose an image connected to:

  • Art or creativity
  • Science or technology
  • Books or writing
  • Music
  • Sports
  • Nature
  • A future career interest
  • A simple pattern or design

A wide image generally works best because the banner area is horizontal.

The profile photo and cover image can be updated through the edit icons shown on the personalization screen.

Step 4: Write a Short Student Bio

The profile editor also includes a space for a short student bio.

The bio can briefly describe the student’s interests, strengths, activities, or future goals.

Examples include:

I enjoy robotics, astronomy, and designing things that fly.

Creative writer, animal lover, and future veterinarian.

I love art, history, and learning new languages.

Future aerospace engineer who enjoys science, math, and anything related to flight.

The bio does not need to sound formal. It should feel natural and reflect the student’s personality.

What Should We Avoid Putting in the Bio?

Do not include sensitive or unnecessary personal information, such as:

  • A home address
  • A personal phone number
  • Account passwords
  • The student’s exact daily schedule
  • Private medical information
  • Other information your family would not want shared

The portal is private by default, but the profile information will be visible to anyone with whom your family later shares the complete portal link or QR code. Families control when the profile is shared.

Step 5: Add a LinkedIn Profile Link, If Applicable

Older students who already have a LinkedIn account can enter the URL of their LinkedIn profile in the provided field.

This is optional and is mainly useful for high school students and graduates who are beginning to build a professional presence for:

  • College preparation
  • Internships
  • Employment
  • Scholarships
  • Career exploration
  • Skilled trade opportunities

Adding the LinkedIn URL to the student profile creates a connection to their LinkedIn page.

This is separate from adding a specific certificate to LinkedIn. To add an individual achievement under the student’s licenses and certifications, use the Add to LinkedIn button on that certificate’s detail page.

For complete instructions, see:

How can high school students add certificates to LinkedIn?

Step 6: Save the Changes

After updating the profile photo, cover image, bio, or LinkedIn link, select the blue Apply Changes button.

The changes are not saved until Apply Changes is selected.

Update the student’s photo, banner, bio, or LinkedIn link, then select Apply Changes to save the profile.

Update the student’s photo, banner, bio, or LinkedIn link, then select Apply Changes to save the profile.

What Does Personalization Change?

Personalization changes the appearance and introductory information on the student’s profile page.

It does not change the official information contained in an issued certificate, such as:

  • The completed course
  • The certificate issue date
  • The Certificate ID
  • The issuing organization
  • The certificate’s verification status

The personalized profile surrounds and organizes the student’s achievements, while each certificate remains its own official record.

Can We Personalize the Portal Before Certificates Appear?

A new student’s portal may be empty until their first eligible course certificate is issued.

The profile and certificate collection will become more meaningful as the student completes courses and new achievements are added automatically.

Students can continue updating their profile as their interests, goals, and accomplishments change.

Can Every Student Have a Different Profile?

Yes. Each student has their own Certificate Portal connected to their individual @remotelearning.school email address.

Siblings can choose completely different:

  • Profile photos
  • Cover images
  • Bios
  • LinkedIn links, when applicable

One student might create a professional academic profile, while another may prefer a colorful and creative design.

To personalize another child’s portal, sign out and log back in using that student’s official school email address.

Who Should Personalize the Profile?

Parents can complete the personalization for younger students or work on it together with them.

Older students may enjoy selecting their own:

  • Profile photo
  • Banner
  • Bio
  • Interests
  • Future-goal description

Allowing students to participate can help them feel greater ownership over the portal and the achievements collected there.

Parents should still review the profile before saving or sharing it.

Is Personalization Required?

No. Personalization is completely optional.

Certificates will still appear and remain available even if the family does not add a profile photo, cover image, bio, or LinkedIn link.

The feature is available for families who want the portal to feel more personal or want to create a polished page for celebrating and sharing the student’s accomplishments.

Who Can See the Personalized Profile?

The student’s Certificate Portal is private by default.

Your family may later choose to share the complete profile by:

  • Copying the profile’s direct web link
  • Downloading and sharing the profile QR code

Anyone who receives the complete profile link may be able to see the student’s profile photo, cover image, bio, and certificates.

You can also share only one individual certificate rather than the complete student profile.

For complete sharing instructions, see:

How do I share my student’s certificates?

What If My Changes Do Not Appear?

First, make sure you selected Apply Changes after editing the profile.

Then try:

  1. Refreshing the portal page.
  2. Confirming that you are signed in to the correct student account.
  3. Opening the profile editor again to see whether the information was saved.
  4. Trying the upload again if an image did not appear.
  5. Signing out and signing back in.

If the changes still do not appear, please contact us and include:

  • The student’s full name
  • The student’s @remotelearning.school email address
  • The part of the profile you were trying to change
  • A screenshot of what you see
  • The device and browser being used

The Bottom Line

The Certificate Portal can be personalized so it feels like the student’s own digital achievement page.

Families can add:

  • A student profile photo
  • A custom cover image
  • A short bio
  • An optional LinkedIn profile link for an older student

Select the blue pencil icon to begin, use the edit icons to update the photo and banner, enter the student’s information, and select Apply Changes to save.

Personalization is optional, the portal remains private by default, and each student can create a profile that reflects their own interests, accomplishments, and future goals.
