Help CenterNo. Students who complete high school through Homeschool Pro and meet the graduation requirements applicable under their state’s homeschool laws receive a high school diploma and an official transcript from RemoteLearning.School. They do not need to take the GED.
Why Doesn’t a Homeschool Graduate Need the GED?
The GED is a high school equivalency credential. It is generally intended as an alternative for someone who did not complete a high school education and earn a diploma.
A Homeschool Pro student follows a high school course of study, completes the required credits and coursework, and graduates with a diploma. Because the student completes high school rather than leaving without graduating, the GED is not necessary.
Federal Student Aid rules also recognize completing secondary education through homeschooling under state law as its own qualification for postsecondary education, separate from earning a GED or another high school equivalency credential.
Important: Homeschool Pro graduates receive a high school diploma and official transcript, so they do not need to take the GED.
What Does My Student Receive at Graduation?
After completing the graduation requirements applicable under their state’s homeschool laws, a Homeschool Pro student receives:
- A high school diploma from RemoteLearning.School
- An official high school transcript
- A record of completed courses, grades, credits, and GPA
- Support with graduation and college application records
The diploma documents the student’s completion of high school. The transcript provides the detailed academic record that colleges, trade schools, scholarship programs, employers, and other organizations may request.
How Does the Homeschool Advisor Help?
Homeschool Pro includes access to a dedicated Homeschool Advisor who can help families plan for graduation and make sure the student is on the right path.
The advisor can help with:
- Reviewing graduation requirements applicable under the student’s state homeschool laws
- Planning high school courses and credits
- Identifying completed and remaining credits
- Adding eligible coursework from a previous school or another curriculum
- Organizing grades and academic records
- Preparing the official transcript
- Preparing the high school diploma
- Reviewing college and scholarship application requirements
We recommend contacting the advisor when the student begins high school, rather than waiting until the end of 12th grade. This allows the family to identify any missing courses or credits well before graduation.
Can Coursework From Other Programs Be Included?
Yes. The student’s transcript can include eligible coursework completed through:
- Homeschool Pro
- A previous public or private school
- Another online homeschool curriculum
- Printed homeschool materials
- Dual-enrollment or college courses
- Other educational programs
Keep copies of previous transcripts, report cards, course descriptions, grades, and other records. Your Homeschool Advisor can review the information and help organize the student’s complete high school transcript.
What Will My Student Use for College Applications?
A Homeschool Pro graduate uses their high school diploma and official transcript when applying to college.
Like other applicants, the student may also need to provide items required by the individual college, such as:
- An application essay
- Letters of recommendation
- SAT or ACT scores when required
- Course descriptions
- Extracurricular activity information
- Additional academic records
These are ordinary admissions requirements. A student does not need to take the GED simply because they completed high school through homeschooling.

Is a GED Part of the Homeschool Pro Graduation Process?
No. Taking the GED is not part of graduating from Homeschool Pro.
The expected path is for the student to:
- Complete their planned high school coursework.
- Earn the necessary credits.
- Meet the graduation requirements applicable under their state’s homeschool laws.
- Receive a high school diploma and official transcript.
The GED is a different route and is not needed when the student completes high school and graduates through Homeschool Pro.
When Should We Contact the Homeschool Advisor?
Contact your advisor as early as possible during high school, especially if:
- Your student transferred from another school or curriculum
- You are unsure how many credits the student has completed
- Your student plans to apply to college
- Your student is entering 11th or 12th grade
- You need help choosing graduation-year courses
- You have questions about transcripts or the diploma
Your advisor’s name and email address are included in the message containing your student’s Homeschool Pro login information. If you cannot locate that email, contact customer service and we will tell you who is assigned to your family.
